I’m very much aware that this article will be uploaded on a Wednesday, however, as a frequenter of Taco Tuesdays, it would only be fitting to share my experiences on some of the ones I’ve tried. To keep things spicy, I like to interchange between places depending on the deal (and the dish). On this week’s takeover, I’ll give my Tue-cents on today’s contestant: Family Taco Recipe.

Family Taco Recipe, as it states pretty descriptively, is family-owned, which adds an endearing touch to their repertoire of cooking. One distinguishable factor I’ve seen is the generous portion size they serve. However, bear in mind that my threshold for big portion sizes is subjective to what I’ve seen served in other Mexican restaurants, such as Mexicano, which is at the bottom of my book for portion sizes, as well as Dos Besos, a seemingly better option than the former for value. Nonetheless, Family Taco takes the cake for the largest average taco size. The tacos are highly personable despite the price and can be catered to fit into anyone’s lifestyle. From meats (or not), to salsa of choice, to cilantro o noh, the ability to customize your perfect taco is astounding.

It goes without saying: More doesn’t always mean better. All of this would be rendered useless if the flavor and taste didn’t match the size. I’ve only tried the minced pork tacos, therefore, they will be the only ones I'll comment on. The set I got was 4 minced pork tacos for 5.75$, averaging out to $1.44/taco. The anatomy consists of diced tomatoes and onions, a sufficient amount of minced pork, all folded into a men’s-pocket-sized floured tortilla, accompanied by a side of salsa.

The taste, from my experience, is nothing exceptional, nor is it by any means unpalatable. Due to my limited experience with the shop, it is unclear whether their minced pork is consistently dry or if it was only dry on one occasion. Regardless, the meat was a tad bit dry and left my throat parched after a few bites. It was nicely seasoned, though– I can’t discredit their heavy hand on spices. The salsa was light and refreshing, as the one-dimensional taste pairs impeccably well with the punchy tacos. In the grand scheme of things, these tacos placed well in terms of portion size for value and the free-range customization you have access to when ordering from this place.

I can’t end the article without reiterating that these are only my opinions; just because I deem anything as remotely bad shouldn’t discourage people from writing them off their list. Overall, since they’re a family-owned business, I think everyone should give them a try, especially on days like Taco Tuesdays. You can’t really scrutinize quality for value on days like these, so I recommend giving them a shot on a good deal.
